Abstract

Ultisol is one of the largest types of soil in Indonesia, reaching 45,794,000 ha or around 25% of Indonesia's total land area. Ultisol soil has low fertility, but has important potential for agricultural development in Indonesia. This research aims to understand the effect of biomass, compost and wet ash application on bacterial and fungal populations in the rhizosphere of sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata Sturt) plants on ultisol. This research was carried out in the Field Laboratory of the Soil Department and analysis was carried out in the Chemistry, Biology and Soil Fertility Laboratory of the Soil Science Study Program, Soil Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province. This research activity began in November 2023 until March 2024. The method used in this research was the Randomized Block Design (RAK) method, with 16 treatments and 3 replications, with sweet corn as an indicator plant. The 75% NPK + (75% biomass + 15% compost + 10% wet ash) treatment produced the highest soil bacterial population value of 20.3 104 cfu g-1 and the 75% Compost + 15% biomass + 10% wet ash treatment produced the highest value. The highest soil fungal population was 21.9 104 cfu g-1.
