Abstract

Background: Seborrheic Keratosis (KS) is benign cutaneous tumor, often attacking individuals aged over 40 years, originating from the proliferation of epidermal keratinocytes. The etiology of KS is not yet known for certain, but the possibility of predisposing factors such as genetics, sun exposure, human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and melanocyte hyperplasia, and none of these factors is considered a single cause of KS. This research is an aims to determine the frequency of KS in Polyclinic of Dermatology and Venereology Tumor and Skin Surgery Division Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang 2014-2016. Method: This research is an observational research descriptive cross section with a total sample of 95 patients of Seborrhoeic Keratosis (KS) which was diagnosed as KS in Polyclinic of Dermatology and Venereology Tumor and Skin Surgery Division RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang 2014-2016. Data collection is taken from secondary data of medical record. Result: The frequency of KS was 17.59% of the total new patients. KS was more common in women (68.42%) than in men (31.58%). The age range of KS in this study were 19-82 years, and mostly in the age group of 51-75 year (48.42%). KS was mostly found in patients with occupations that receiving sun exposure 3-6 hours/day (64.62%). The lesions were most located at the sun exposed area (80.8%) consisting of face (56%), neck (23.2%), v-neck area (0.8%) and dorsum of hand (0.8%). Conclusion: Frequency of KS patient in Polyclinic of Dermatology and Venereology Tumor and Skin Surgery Division RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang 2014-2016 is 17.79%. The lesions were most located at the area sun exposed especially on the face (56%).
