Abstract

Background: Cesarean delivery is increasing in almost all countries, one of the factors affecting it is cesarean delivery on maternal request. The most common reason a pregnant woman chooses a cesarean delivery is fear of childbirth, including the fear of pain. This study was conducted to analyze the association between fear of childbirth and preference for caesarean delivery at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin and RS Bunda Palembang. Method: This research is an analytic cross-sectional study. Population of the study for case are women in second and third trimester of pregnancy from November-December. By using consecutive sampling, the number of samples are 91 respondent. Data was collected by questionnaires W-DEQ. The data were analyzed by using Chi Square Test and alternative test with Fisher's Exact Test. Results: Based on the results of this study, from 91 respondents, the majority (67%) of respondents still have preference for vaginal delivery, only 33% of respondents have a preference for cesarean delivery. Fear of childbirth was only 7% of 91 respondents. Statistical tests showed no significant association between fear of childbirth and preference for caesarean delivery (p=1; OR: 0,8; CI 95%: 0,146-4,385). Conclusion: There is a no significant association association between fear of childbirth and preference for caesarean delivery
