Abstract
Black rice is of the same species as white rice, but its antioxidant content is five times higher due to anthocyanin pigments. Utilizing suboptimal land can enhance black rice production. This research aims to assess growth uniformity and select superior black rice accessions, producing the best parent plant seeds for subsequent researchers. The study was conducted in lowland swamp fields in Desa Ibul Besar II, Pemulutan District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with treatments of Regita 1, Regita 5, and Regita 6 accessions, each comprising 3 blocks and 125 plants per block. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, LSD test, and heritability (H) calculations. Plant growth varied significantly, with the best growth observed in the Regita 1 accession (plant height, total tiller number, flowering age, panicle number, and panicle length). Overall plant production was similar among all accessions, including Regita 1, Regita 5, and Regita 6. Variability calculations indicated low uniformity, particularly in variables such as plant height at 28-84 days after planting (8.89%- 22.12%), productive tiller number (23.03%), panicle number per clump with >85% maturity (23.03%), total dry grain weight (27.74%), total tiller number at 42-84 days after planting (10.60%-25.35%), panicle length (4.97%), number of filled grains (21.91%), filled grain weight (24.04%), and weight of 100 filled grains (4.30%). Heritability calculations revealed genetic influence, particularly on growth variables with a value of 85%.
