Abstract
Health development in Indonesia aims to improve the quality of health services and achieve a healthy Indonesia. In 2021, outpatient utilization in South Sumatra Province was still 42.88%. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors that influence outpatient utilization in South Sumatra Province. This research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional study design, using secondary data from the March National Socio-Economic Survey (KOR) in 2023 South Sumatra Province. The sample amounted to 8,873 respondents selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis used the chi-square statistical test in bivariate analysis and the multiple logistic regression test in multivariate analysis. The results showed that respondents who utilized outpatient services were 23.9%. Characteristics that had a significant association with outpatient utilization (p-value<0.05) were older (≥60 years), secondary education level, not working, living in urban areas, and having health insurance. Not working was the most dominant variable affecting outpatient utilization in South Sumatra Province (p-value=<0.001; PR=1.676; 95%CI=1.406-1.998) after controlling for other variables. Non-working status strongly influenced outpatient utilization. Recommendations to the government are expected to strengthen regulations regarding employee rights related to health, including the right to sick leave without salary deduction.
