Abstract

Efforts to increase rice production are faced with various problems, one of the problems being the increasingly limited productive land due to the conversion of paddy fields. These problems can be overcome by utilizing marginal land such as peatlands. But it must be realized that the use of peatlands has environmental risks, because peat is very vulnerable to degradation. Therefore, the concept of sustainable peatland management must be carried out by maximally increasing productivity and reducing the level of emissions caused to a minimum. The way to manage peatlands is by applying appropriate amelioration and fertilization. This study aims to determine the increase in CO2 gas emissions in rice farming in peat soils that are affected by urea fertilizer and zeolite minerals, and find out the type of treatment that affects the highest CO2 gas emissions. The study was conducted in the greenhouse of the Agriculture Training Center (ATC) Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Inderalaya, South Sumatra province from September to December 2018. Analysis of CO2 gas was carried out at the Agricultural Environment Research Institute, Ministry of Agriculture, Pati, Central Java. This study used an experimental method with 9 treatment combinations where the dose of urea combined with the dose of zeolite used was 125 kg, 250 kg, 375 kg. The results of this study indicate that the treatment of all phases after averaged was obtained 125 kg/ha urea fertilizer treatment and 125 kg/ha zeolite mineral was the highest CO2 gas emission of 3.01 kg/m2/day. While the lowest CO2 gas emissions after averaged over all phases were in the treatment of 250 kg/ha fertilizer and 250 kg/ha zeolite minerals at 2.60 kg/ m2/day.
