Abstract

The limitation of self-care in mental disorder patients are usually because of severe stressor and difficult to be handled by the patient itself and it can cause of taking care of self care deficit. If nurse doesn’t do intervention, it can cause of social isolation of patient. Literature studies on group activity therapy can change self-care abilities in psychiatric patients. This study was conducted to determine the effect of group activity therapy on self-care ability of mental disorder patient. The design used in this study was Pra Eksperimental. The design was one group pretest-posttest. Determination of sample by using purposive sampling method which counted 18 respondents. Data analysis that used was marginal homogeneity and the result of self-care bathing ability before doing group therapy activity is less is 13, enough is 5, and good is 0 and after doing group activity therapy is less is 1, enough is 5, and good is 12 with ρ value 0,001. Meanwhile the average of self-care capability of dressed/dress up before doing group activity therapy is less is 11, enough is 7, and good is 0, and after doing group activity therapy is less 1, enough is 3, and good is 14 with ρ value 0,001. These results indicate that there is the influence of group activity therapy on self-care ability of mental disorder patients. The implications of this study are expected that group activity therapy will be used to mental disorder patient by including group activity therapy into the daily activity schedule.
