Abstract

This redesign is prompted by the condition of IP Mall, the oldest mall in Palembang, which was inaugurated in 1996. Previously, IP Mall was the largest shopping center in South Sumatra and was strategically located in the Jalan Jendral Sudirman area, which is the main access road to the Ampera Bridge and connects several city landmarks such as the Great Mosque and the Balaputra Dewa Museum. However, the area is now filled with old shop houses that are less attractive to the community, and IP Mall itself shows signs of aging with several non-functional facilities, leading to a decline in visitor interest. This redesign aims to revive IP Mall to become a major attraction in the area by integrating cultural elements and modernization through a regionalism architecture approach. The proposed design will not only function as a commercial space but also as a public space that can enliven the surrounding area. By incorporating local cultural elements in the building design and adding new programs such as facilities for local MSMEs, IP Mall is expected to become an attractive shopping and cultural tourism destination for tourists and the local community. The design methods used include analysis of the existing condition of the area, case studies of mall redesigns, and the application of regionalism architecture concepts. The design results show that redesigning IP Mall with a regionalism architecture approach can enhance the area's appeal and support local economic sustainability by empowering MSMEs. In conclusion, the redesigned IP Mall is expected to make the mall appealing to the public again, introduce local culture, and create a dynamic public space, thereby revitalizing the surrounding area and increasing Palembang's tourism appeal.
