Abstract
Corn farmers, in response to El Nino phenomena, must adopt specific mitigation strategies to cope with the adverse effects on their crops. The objectives of this study were 1) To measure the productivity and income ratio of corn farmers during normal seasons and during El Nino in Sukadamai Village, Tanjung Lago District, Banyuasin Regency, and 2) To analyze the level of participation of corn farmers in efforts to mitigate the impact of El Nino in Sukadamai Village, Tanjung Lago District, Banyuasin Regency. This research was conducted from September to December 2023 in Sukadamai Village, Tanjung Lago District, Banyuasin Regency. The sampling method was selected using a simple random method. The number of samples of corn farmers taken was 30 samples of farmers. The data collected were primary and secondary data, which were then processed using Excel and SPSS. To see the difference in income in the normal season and during the El Nino phenomenon, a t-test was carried out for two paired samples, and to determine the level of mitigation of corn farmers in an El Nino phenomenon effort, the Likert scale was used. The results obtained showed a low score of 20.13 with three indicators. The weather information usage indicator obtained a low average of 6.87. The cooperation indicator between farmers and the crop monitoring indicator with an average score of 7.13 and 6.13 respectively were also relatively low. During the El Nino phenomenon, the average income of corn farmers was Rp10,713,553. Meanwhile, the average income of farmers during the normal season was Rp17,086,670. This showed that there was a decrease in income by 37 percent.
