Abstract
Aluminium is a metal which has many advantages such as light weight, corrosion resistant, and others, so the welding of aluminum is widely used by a variety of methods including SMAW and TIG welding. This research aims to compare the physical and mechanical properties of the SMAW and TIG welding methods results. Aluminum welding is done on the pipeline in 1100 using V seam with 1G position. Welding parameters used are current 80 A, 90 A, 130 A and 150 A in SMAW welding. While at TIG only use current 130 A and 150 A. Further testing Visual, Dye penetrant, hardness and metallografi. The test results show that the visual method of TIG welding current 130 A and 150 A has fewer defects than SMAW method. While at dye penetrant testing defects found in SMAW pipe welding has many defects. In hardness testing SMAW welding currents of 80 A has the highest hardness value of 59.3 BHN. Metallographic testing results show that micro TIG welding has a structure that is far better than one SMAW welding.
