Abstract

This research aims to analyze audience reception in the documentary film "Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee, and Jessica Wongso". The research method employed is descriptive qualitative research using Stuart Hall's reception analysis, with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature review. The focus of this study is on applying Stuart Hall's reception analysis theory, which includes dominant hegemonic position, negotiated position, and oppositional position. The findings indicate that informants have varied receptions to the documentary film "Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee, and Jessica Wongso". Informants interpret messages according to their capabilities and personal experiences in daily life. Among the six informants, two were categorized in the dominant hegemonic position, three in the negotiated position, and one informant held an oppositional position. The film presents a different perspective from the reality presented in court. Additionally, the film encourages viewers to critically and skeptically think about the legal processes in Indonesia.
