Abstract

Sprinkler irrigation is water that is sprayed into the air, so that when it falls it is like rainwater. Sprinkler irrigation can reduce surface runoff and the risk of soil salting, such as surface irrigation and drip irrigation. Based on the magnitude of the influence of irrigation on plant growth and overall production, research was conducted to apply the design of a bulk irrigation system with various numbers of pipes in oil palm nurseries in the pre-nursery phase. The research aims to design an irrigation system by optimally designing sprinkler irrigation distribution patterns with various numbers of pipes in oil palm nurseries. The research was carried out from December 2023 to February 2024. Research was carried out at the Mechanical, Soil and Water Engineering Laboratory, and Plant House, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya Indralaya University. The research used design and descriptive methods for sprinkler irrigation with various numbers of pipes in oil palm nurseries. The parameters observed in the research were water discharge, distribution pattern, uniformity of flow, distribution width, and production. Based on the results of observations, good irrigation lies in irrigation one (I₁) with a seedling growth percentage reaching 45.3%, a distribution width of 26 cm, a uniformity coefficient reaching 96.7%, and an average irrigation discharge of 1.50 ml/s. Meanwhile, a good distribution pattern lies in the three system (S₃) with a treatment of four pipes and a uniformity coefficient reaching 95.4%.
