Abstract

Nutrition plays an important role in achieving optimal health for each individual throughout the life cycle. Adequate nutrition is an absolute think must be fulfilled, especially for school-age children who are in a period of rapid growth and development and their activities more increase. School-age children is a critical period for forming eating patterns, if the food consumed during this period is not met properly, it will result in nutritional problems and degenerative diseases that have an impact on physical growth and development and then thinking skills. Knowledge about nutrition is very important for children to have so that they do not make mistakes in choosing the food that they will consume. One of the interventions that can be given to improve children's knowledge about nutrition is health education. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of health education with GOFOGOLIBI media on school-age children’s knowledge about balanced nutrition. This study was a quantitative study with a pre-experimental one group pre-test and post-test design. The samples of this study were 36 children in the 4th and 5th grades of SD Negeri 56 Palembang who were selected using a simple random sampling technique. Children's knowledge about balanced nutrition was measured using a knowledge questionnaire. Statistical analysis in this study used the Paired T-Test. The results showed that the average value of children's knowledge during the pretest was 11.22 and the posttest was 14.17 with a p value of 0.000 (α < 0.05). Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that there was a significant effect from the use of GOFOGOLIBI media on school-age children’s knowledge about balanced nutrition. GOFOGOLIBI media gave stimulation for children to use their various senses which can affect children’s cognitive abilities. The results of this study can be an intervention option in choosing effective health education media to improve knowledge about balanced nutrition and can be a reference for further researchers.
