Abstract

In this study the authors analyze performance against savonius wind turbine by doing some testing using a variation of the wind speed. Savonius wind turbinesare used in this research are wind turbines with two blades without overlap ratio. Savonius wind turbines with two blades are manufactured using pvc pipe 3 inc for turbine blades and 4 inc pvc pipe for turbine endplates. Savonius wind turbine has high 200 mm, blades diameter 150 mm, and endplate diameter 170 mm. Savonius wind turbines with two blades is tested as much as 10 times using different wind speed. The testing is done to obtain data on the performance of savonius wind turbine specifically rotation of turbine blades, voltage and electric current generated by the generator. Based on the results of testing the wind speed is very influential in increasing the performance of the turbine. From the test results obtained that the savonius wind produce best performance on wind speed 11.85 m/s with the rotation of blades turbine 832 rpm. While the worst performance of savonius wind turbine at wind speed of 5 m/s which the blades turbine did not spin.
