Abstract

The analysis of nickel metal (Ni) in sediments in the Ogan River has been carried out using the concentration cell potentiometric method. This study aims to validate the concentration cell potentiometric method in the determination of nickel metal in sediments and determine the concentration of nickel metal in sediments along the Ogan River at certain points. The concentration cell potentiometric method has a simple circuit, which consists of an anode and a cathode connected by a salt bridge and a multimeter. The salt bridge is made from KCl salt dissolved in demin water and clear agar. Both sides of the anode and cathode are nickel metal electrodes. Each beaker contains Ni2+ electrolyte solution with different concentrations. Based on the Ni2+ calibration curve, the regression line equation y = 12,275x + 1,7123 was obtained with a correlation coefficient (R2) = 0,9976. The LoD and LoQ were obtained as 0,0748 mg/L and 0,1806 mg/L. The validation results show that the accuracy of this method is very high because the % RSD value = 0,29% with an average accuracy of 90,67%. The measurement uncertainty was found to be 4,25 ± 0,54 mg/kg to 5,46 ± 0,7 mg/kg. Nickel metal levels in sediments ranged from 4,25 mg/kg – 5,46 mg/kg. According to the threshold set by the US-EPA, the nickel metal content is still below environmental quality standards (20 mg/kg).
