Abstract
Stress can occur to anyone including special education teachers. SLB teachers are more vulnerable to experiencing work stress because they have a higher workload than regular school teachers. Therefore, special education teachers are more vulnerable to experiencing excessive mental workload and low self-efficacy. Work stress experienced by teachers not only has an impact on themselves but can also have a negative impact on students, because teachers will lose concentration and enthusiasm in teaching and mentoring students. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and mental workload with work stress in teachers of SLB-B Negeri Pembina Palembang. This study used quantitative research methods with a cross sectional approach. The sample in this study were 55 teachers of SLB-B Negeri Pembina Palembang. The analysis was carried out using the Spearmen Rank test. The results showed that for the relationship between self-efficacy and work stress, the p-value was 0.001 (<0.05) and the correlation coefficient was -0.441. While for the relationship between mental workload and work stress, the p-value was 0.691 (>0.05) and the correlation coefficient was 0.055. So it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and work stress and there is no relationship between mental workload and work stress. Therefore, it is recommended to look for other variables such as physical workload, individual competence, emotional conditions and so on, so that it can be known with certainty the variables that affect teacher work stress.
