Abstract

Employees who regularly use computers are at risk of adverse effects from poor work posture due to prolonged sitting and repetitive movements, which can lead to fatigue and decreased productivity. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between work posture and complaints of discomfort among employees at the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of South Sumatra Province. This observational analytic study uses a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used in this study is simple random sampling with a total sample of 84 individuals, consisting of 26 men and 58 women, with 41.7% under 35 years old and 58.3% aged 35 and above. The Rapid Office Strain Assessment (ROSA) method assesses work posture risk, and the Cornell Musculoskeletal Discomfort Questionnaires (CMDQ) determines musculoskeletal discomfort complaints. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate methods with the chi-square test. Based on ROSA calculations, 31% of participants were found to have a moderate-risk work posture, while 69% had a high-risk work posture. According to CMDQ results, 34.5% of participants fell into the moderate complaint category, and 65.5% were in the high complaint category. The CMDQ results showed that the highest complaint distribution was in the hip/buttocks area, at 8.41%. Statistical test results showed a significant relationship between work posture and discomfort complaints among employees at the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of South Sumatra Province, with a p-value of 0.000. It can be concluded that there is a highly significant relationship between work posture and complaints of discomfort among employees at BPS of South Sumatra Province.
