Abstract

Background: CPP-ACPF and fTCP have calcium, phosphate, and fluoride which can increase of email surface hardness. Several studies had mentioned that CPP-ACPF and fTCP can accelerate the process of tooth remineralization. Purpose: To find out the comparison of topical application of CPP-ACPF and fTCP on email surface hardness after soaking in acid. Method: Experimental laboratory research was conducted at the Pharmacy Laboratory, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Sriwijaya University and Laboratory of Engineering Materials, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Gadjah Mada University. Thirty teeth of the maxillary central incisors were divided into 3 groups, group one was treated with functionalized Tricalcium Phosphate (fTCP), group two was treated with Casein Phosphopeptide-Amorphous Calcium Phosphate Flouride (CPP-ACPF) and group three (as control group). All samples were immersed with citric acid for 30 minutes for demineralization, after that group one and two were treated with 3 minutes 2 times a day for 7 days, followed by all the samples were soaked in artificial saliva. Each sample was tested for its surface hardness by using a Vickers Microhardness tester for 5 seconds, to determine the value of the email surface hardness and analyzed statistically. Result: The group of fTCP had the highest score of the email surface hardness compared to the other groups that is 452,80 VHN. The group of fTCP and CPP-ACPF on group control had a significant difference (p<0.05) in increasing the email surface hardness of deciduous teeth. Conclusion: fTCP and CPP-ACPF have the effectiveness to increase the email surface hardness of deciduous teeth, however, fTCP has the highest number of hardness of deciduous email surface hardness although it has no statistically significant difference.
