Abstract
Child health problems, especially stunting, are still a major problem in society. One of the risk factors is the lack of exclusive breastfeeding. Musi Rawas has the lowest exclusive breastfeeding coverage at only 9.5%. The Health Belief Model explains disease prevention behavior begins when a person understands the disease that can be experienced by infants is a serious disease. The purpose of the study was to analyze the relationship between perceived seriousness and maternal demographic characteristics with exclusive breastfeeding. This research is part of the FKM UNSRI umbrella research. The research method was quantitative cross-sectional design. The sample was taken through purposive sampling, the result was 154 mothers who had children aged 6-36 months. Data analysis used Descriptive Test, Chi Square, and Multiple Logistic Regression Prediction Model. The results showed an association between the number of family members (p-value = 0.000) and perceived seriousness (p-value = 0.000) with exclusive breastfeeding. There was also no association between age, educational status, employment status, number of children, family income and maternal knowledge with exclusive breastfeeding. The results of multivariate analysis stated that the number of family members (p-value = 0.000; OR = 4.147; 95%CI = 1.755 - 9.804) > 4 people was the dominant factor in the tendency of exclusive breastfeeding 4.1 times lower than mothers who had a family size of ≤ 4 people. It was concluded that the number of family members was the most influential variable with exclusive breastfeeding. It is expected that the community is able to increase awareness in exclusive breastfeeding. Keywords : Perceived Severity, Exclusive Breastfeeding, Stunting
