Abstract

Workers in the industrial sector cannot be separated from the dangers and risks that exist in the work environment, including heat pressure generated by machines or production equipment, especially for workers around smelters, boilers, ovens and heating furnaces in factories. Workers who are exposed to high working environmental temperatures can be at risk for health problems and decreased work productivity such as fatigue. Work fatigue is a condition where the energy to carry out activities is weakened so that it can inhibit activities. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of heat stress, age, years of service, workload, smoking habits and marital status on work fatigue. This study used a cross sectional design and the sampling method was used purposive sampling with a sample of 75 people. Data was collected by interviews, direct measurements using a Heat Stress Monitor type HD 32.2, reaction timer, body scales, and questionnaire sheets. Data analysis was carried out univariate, bivariate and multivariate. The results showed that there was an effect of heat stress (p-value = 0.006) on work fatigue. Other factors that effect work fatigue are age (p-value = 0.023), workload (p-value = 0.041), and smoking habits (p-value = 0.016). There was no effect on years of service (p-value = 0.390) and marital status (p-value = 0.096). In the multivariate analysis there was a significant effect between heat stress and work fatigue after being controlled by confounding variables such as age, workload and smoking habits. It can be concluded that the higher the heat pressure measurement results, the greater the number of workers who was got work fatigue in the dry process at PT Hevea MK II Palembang.
