Abstract
The brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens) is the main pest that attacks rice plants. Brown stem planthoppers (WBC) is controlled by using synthetic insecticides excessively and continuously which can damage the environment. A solution that can be taken to reduce the use of synthetic insecticides is to use vegetable insecticides that come from plants that contain bioactive compounds, one of which is papaya leaves. The aim of this research was to determine the concentration of papaya leaf extract that kills the most, determine morphological changes after treatment of WBC, determine the LC50 value of papaya leaf extract on WBC mortality and determine the secondary metabolite content found in papaya leaves. The research was carried out from November 2023 to April 2024, at the Genetics and Biotechnology Laboratory, Biology Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University. Meanwhile and at the Food Crop and Horticulture Pest Observation Laboratory, East Belitang Oku. Using a completely randomized design by testing the concentration of papaya leaf extract, namely 0.8%; 1% ; 1.2% ; 1.4% ; 1.6% and positive control (furadan). Based on the research results, it shows that papaya leaf extract has an effect on WBC mortality with a success rate of 75% and changes in morphology within 24 hours. The LC50 value was obtained at 0.9% in the very toxic category. Papaya leaf extract contains secondary metabolite compounds such as tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids and steroid saponins.
