Abstract

The objectives of this research was to know the effectiveness of a number of concentrations of B. bassiana on the mortality of small pepper weevil L. piperis i n a laboratory. The research was conducted from may to august 2003 i n the laboratory of Experimental Garden in Village Kace, Dislrict Mendo Barat, Bangka Municipality, province of Archipelago Bangka Belitung. The experiment was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatment and five replicates i.e. A (control), B (3 x 105 conidia/ml suspension), C (3 x 106 conidia/ml suspension), D (3 x 107 conidia/ml suspension) and E (3 x 108 conidia/ml suspension). mortality of L. piperis for which the observation was conducted three times i.e. on the fourth, eighth and twelfth days after application. The results of the result showed that all concentration applied in the experiment coul kill the adult of L. piperis , the death symptom included the slower movement, feeding capacity reduction and finally stop feeding and then died with toughen body. It is suggested to conduct further research of field application and a maximal efiort to popularize the use of the fungi by pepper farmers.
