Abstract

Overweight is one of the global health problems facing various countries around the world. Family factors is one of the factors that determine the incident of overweight among children. The highest overweight cases in Palembang City at Kalidoni District with a total number of 228 children. Overweight will caused bad affect on short-term and long-term health conditions of children in adulthood. The purpose of this study to determine the relationship between family factors with the incident of overweight among pre school children. This research used cross sectional design. The sample of this analysis were mothers who have pre-school children in the work area of puskesmas kalidoni numbered 92 people The sampling selection used technique cluster sampling. Data were analyzed using bivariate analtsis with chi-square test. The results of univariate analysis showed that 15,2% respondents who have pre-school children with overweight status.. The result of bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between mother weight status (p value = 0.015) and types of food available in home (p value = 0.005) with the incident of overweight among pre school children. Family factors that affected the incident of overweight among pre-school children is mother's weight status and types of food available at home. It is expected that all related parties can make efforts to prevent the increased incident of overweight among pre-school children in Palembang City by monitoring the children nutrion status every month and control the consumption patterns of children.
