Abstract

This research was to know the effect of elephant grass (pennisetum purpureum) and bamboo grass (hymenachne amplexicaulis) adding a feed ingredient to growth and survival rate of tilapia fish (oreochromis niloticus) and to know digestion value (protein, fat, and carbohydrate) of the feed. The research was held from September up to November 2007 in The Basic of Fisheries Laboratory. The size of fish were 3,10-5,57 g, that were reared in an aquarium 50x45x40 cm. A complete randomized with 4 treatments was utilized in this research. Each treatment was applicated 3 times. The treatments were P1 (feed without grass), P2 (the feed with a king grass and bamboo grass), P3 (the feed with king grass), and P4 (the feed with bamboo grass). The result of research showed that the grass adding didn’t give increasing the growth rate, consumption of feed, the efficiency of feed and the retention of protein. But the giving of some kinds of feed gave a significant differences for the value of nutrition digestibility. Giving of feed without grass gave a high value of nutrition digestibility is 91,54% for protein, 96,77% for fat, and 94,15% for carbohydrate. The digestibility of nutrition grass adding was still good enough an is 74,63-87,08% for protein, 85-40-92,63% for fat, and 71,51-83,69% for carbohydrate. The percentage of survival rate of tilapia fish during the research was 90-96,66%.
