Abstract
Computer use at work includes typing position and duration of computer use. Typing activities for a long duration and the wrong position when typing can risk developing diseases of the fingers and wrists. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between workstation design factors and carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms among computer users at BPJS Health Palembang. The design of this research is descriptive analytic with a cross sectional approach. In this study, the sample taken was 75 people using a purposive sampling approach, the data was tested using Chi-Square and Logistic Regression. The results showed that the majority of respondents were ≥ 30 years old (66.7%), the duration of computer use in a day was ≥ 8 hours (89.3%) and the majority of respondents had a working period of ≥ 4 years (77.3%) and workstation design. good (52%). The results of the study showed that variables related to carpal tunnel syndrome were age (p=0.001), gender (p=0.034), years of work (p=0.000) and workstation design (p=0.000). Meanwhile, the length of work variable is not related to CTS with a p-value = 1,000. Age, gender, years of work and workstation design were associated with carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms, whereas length of work was not associated with carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms. Thus, it is recommended that BPJS Health Palembang promote ergonomics and occupational health in the form of counseling and illustrated posters for workers. Apart from that, workers are expected to be able to stretch between working hours so that workers can stretch tense muscles.
