Abstract

The objectives of this research were to find out the influence of liquid urea concentration to cell growth of C. pyrenoidosa and Nannochloropsis sp. and to know the difference cell characteristics of C. pyrenoidosa and Nannochloropsis sp. affected by concentration of liquid urea. This research has been done from June to August 2011 at Aquaculture Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Bioprocess Laboratory, Faculty of Engineering and FIistology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University. This current Research apllied Factorial Completely Randomized Design (FCRD) with two treatment factors. The first factor was concentration of liquid urea, consisted of 5 levels of concentration, namely Uo = without addition liquid urea, Ui = addition of liquid urea equivalent to 1 ppm total nitrogen, U2 = 10 ppm, U3 = 100 ppm, U4 = 1000 ppm. Second factor was species of microalgae, namely C. pyrenoidosa and Nannochloropsis sp. Water quality measurement results show that pH media is still in the tolerance range for microalgae growth (pH range 7-9), ammonia concentration is still able to support the survival and growth of microalgae. At a concentration equivalent to 1000 ppm total nitrogen, microalgae cell density decreased.
