Abstract

The Asian Tin Belt or what is known as the tin belt that crosses Southeast Asia, is more than 3000 km long and consists of several countries, namely Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. One of the processing processes for minerals is the processing of tin ore. from the tailings known as SHP still contains Rare Earth Metals (LTJ) minerals. The potential for LTJ found in tailings in the Bangka Belitung Islands is very abundant because there are many associated minerals in tin ore. This research was conducted to analyze the characteristics of monazite in the tailings and to determine the potential of metallic elements in the research area. In this research, analysis was carried out using the same two types of samples, namely tailings, but at two different locations. The stages in this research process include the sampling process, sample preparation, concentrate mineral assessment analysis, X-Ray Fluorescence analysis, and analysis using a Scanning Electron Microscope. In the results of the assessment test, it was found that in samples 1 and 2 the monazite mineral was mostly found in the 100# fraction. The monazite mineral contained in sample 1 contains the elements Eu, La and Y which were confirmed by the results of XRF analysis to have Eu2O3 levels of 0.037%, La of 0.002% and Y of 0.008%. The monazite mineral in sample 2 contains the element Ce which was confirmed by XRF analysis to have a CeO2 content of 0.401%. Based on the results of the monazite mineral assessment analysis, it was found that the characteristics of the monazite mineral in the two samples had an angular roundness, which indicated that the mineral was still close to its source of origin. So the study area is dominated by Ce and Eu with an enrichment of 25 times the UCC concentration. This can be seen from the average value of ΣUTJ concentration of 722.5 ppm
