Abstract

Kapal Isap Produksi (KIP) Timah 19 is one of PT Timah Tbk's mining operational object which operates in the Kundur sea area, Karimun Regency, Riau Islands. The tin ore (cassiterite) washing process at KIP Timah 19 uses a Pan american jig as a concentration tool. There are two stages in the cassiterite separation process, namely separation in a primary jig and a secondary jig. Cassiterite recovery is an indicator of the success of the process of separating cassiterite from its mineral impurities. Low recovery means that cassiterite mineral losses occur in the tin ore washing process. Cassiterite recovery is influenced by tool variables (jigs) and process variables. This research aims to evaluate the jig operation variables that influence the low cassiterite recovery achieved in the tin ore washing process so that recovery is obtained in accordance with company requirements (above 96%). In this thesis report, the results obtained from calculations on samples of concentrate and tailings from each jig unit (primary and secondary), there was a cassiterite recovery that was below standard, namely in the primary jig unit BB 1 and primary jig BB 2. Then experiments were carried out to change variables. operation on the jig, namely changing the length and frequency of jig strokes on both jig units. The stroke length of the experimental jig in compartments A, B and C was 32 mm respectively; 26mm and 19mm. Meanwhile, the frequency of experimental jig blows in compartments A, B and C was 140 blows per minute. After changing the operating variables, sampling and calculations were carried out on the concentrate and tailings in the primary jig unit BB 1 and primary jig BB 2. The results of the calculations stated that there was an increase in recovery in the two jig units. Recovery of primary jig BB1 increased from 94.47% to 98.60% and primary jig BB 2 increased from 96.58% to 98,73%.
