Abstract

Child abuse is an act against morals and the law. Miss Baek is a film from South Korea, which tells the story of a girl who experiences violence from her parents, causing physical scars and trauma. The purpose of this study is to determine the representation of violence against children in the movie Miss Baek. Data was obtained through observation, documentation and literature study with Qualitative research methods. This research uses Roland Barthes Semiotics analysis with three stages of denotation, connotation and myth, then uses the classification of child abuse proposed by Suharto. The results showed that the representation of child abuse in Miss Baek's film contained three types of child abuse, namely physical abuse (beaten by objects and non-objects), psychological abuse (emotional through demeaning and threatening words) and social abuse in the form of child neglect (clothing, shelter and food). In addition, the depiction of child abuse in the movie Miss Baek wants to break down some views that parents have strong authority over children, so they are free to do anything to their children and are triggered by parents who were abused in childhood or intergenerational violence.
