Abstract
Snakehead fish is one of swamp fish species that has not been successfully cultivated intensively, therefore it is necessary to do a particular effort for rearing snakehead fish. This research was to determine the pH optimum on survival rate and growth of fry snakehead fish (Channa striata). The research has been done from October to November 2012 at Aquaculture Laboratory, Aquaculture Program Study, Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya University. The research used Completely Randomized Design with five treatments and three replications. Treatment Po (without the treatment), Pj (decreased from pH 5.75 to pH 3.00), ?2 (decreased from pH 5.75 to pH 4.00), P3 (decreased from pH 5.75 to pH 5.00) and P4 (increased from pH 5.75 to pH 6.00). Modification of water pH will be done by adding HC1 or NaOH. Increased or decreased pH will be conducted continuosly for 30 days. The result of this research showed that continues modification of rearing media pH is very significantly affectted survival rate of fry snakehead fish with P3 (decreased from pH 5.75 to pH 5.00) as the best treatment. This treatment gave survival rate of 67.90 % and 9.89 g of biomass.
