Abstract

Background: The eyelids in humans have a vital role in protecting the eyes from the external environment and foreign objects. The skin of the eyelids is not only the thinnest skin of the body but also the part that is often exposed to sunlight, in addition the eyelids are also the most sensitive part of the body, making it possible to contract benign or malignant tumors. This study purpose is to determine the characteristics of patients with benign and malignant tumors of the eyelid treated at Dr. Muhammad Hoesin General Hospital, Palembang, during the 2020-2022 period. Method: This research is a descriptive observational research using secondary data in the form of medical records. The sample for this study is patients with eyelid tumor at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital in Palembang for the period 2020-2022 who met the inclusion criteria and do not have exclusion criteria. Result: There were 65 casses who met the inclusion criteria and did not have exclusion criteria. The majority of patients were female (52.31%), aged over 60 years (36.92%), worked indoors (58.46%), and resided outside Palembang (67.69%). The frequency distribution of tumors based on clinical characteristics showed that the most common cases were in the upper eyelid (53.84%), with equal percentages for right and left laterality (49.23%), and tumor sizes ranging from 1 to 3 cm (46.15%). Surgery was the most frequently chosen therapeutic action (70.77%), and malignant eyelid tumors were more common (69.23%). Conclusion: The occurrence of benign and malignant eyelid tumors at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital from 2020-2022 was dominated by patients over the age of 60, female, working indoors, residing outside Palembang, most frequently found in the upper eyelid, with equal right and left laterality, and tumor sizes ranging from 1 to 3 cm. Malignant tumors were more common, and surgery was the most dominant therapy chosen. Keywords: Characteristics, Eyelid, Benign and Malignant Tumors
