Abstract

This language research was conducted with the aim of describing the compliance with the principles of language politeness contained in the film Eyang Ti by Herwin Novianto and its implications for learning Indonesian Language. Based on the theory of politeness in language according to Geoffrey Leech, the category of compliance is divided into six maxims including tact maxim, generosity maxim, approbation maxim, modesty maxim, agreement maxim, and symphaty maxim. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive with a pragmatic approach. The data in the study was obtained through the method of listening, documentation and recording. The data analysis technique used is a content analysis technique with a matching method that allows researchers to compare elements of lingual elements as well as elements that are outside of language. Before entering at the analysis stage, the speech that shows an indication of compliance with language politeness, is deciphered in context according to the SPEAKING element of Dell Hymes. The results of the study showed that 345 speeches were obtained, of which 61 speeches met the principle of language politeness. Based on the 61 data, 9 speeches obeyed the tact maxim, 12 utterances complied with the maxim of generosity, 11 utterances complied with the maxim of appobation, 8 maxims complied with the maxim of modesty, 8 utterances complied with the maxim of agreement maxim, and and 13 speeches comply with the maxim of sympathy. The results of this study show that the form of compliance with the principle of language politeness is found in all maxims according to Geoffrey Leech's theory of language politeness. The implications of the results of this study are directed at learning in schools as teaching materials in the form of examples of speech that comply with the principle of politeness in language in KD 3.19 grade XI of high school “Analyzing the content and language of the drama read or watched.” Keywords: Qualitative, Language Politeness, Eyang Ti Movie
