Abstract

Sungsang is a water area in Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra, where tthe majority of the community earns their livelihood from fishing. Gulamah fish is characterised by its yellow fins. The purpose of this study was to measure and compare the concentration of Cd metal in the flesh, liver, and gills of Gulamah fish as well as to assess the Cd metal content in humans after consuming Gulamah fish using the EDI (Estimated Daily Intake) method. This research was conducted in September 2023. Samples were taken through catches with fishermen and then analysed in the flesh, liver, and gills. The average length and total weight of the fish used in this study were 20 cm and 120 grams. The average concentrations of Cd metal in the flesh, liver, and gills of Gulamah fish were 0.649 mg/kg, 0.481 mg/kg, 0.912 mg/kg respectively with standard deviation values of 0.2456 mg/kg, 0.0914 mg/kg, and 0.0505 mg/kg, respectively. These value exceeds the quality standard limits set by BPOM 2018 and SNI 7387: 2009 with a value of 0.1 mg/kg. The estimated daily intake of Cd metal from Gulamah fish for a 60 kg human was found to be 0.00012 mg/kg/day which is below the WHO 2004 quality standard of 0.001 mg/kg/day. The concentrations of Cd metal in the flesh, liver and gills indicate heavy metal accumulation, far exceeding the established quality. However, the daily intake of Cd metal from Gulamah fish can be considered safe for consumption as it remains below the established limits.
