Abstract

The island of Enggano, with its coral reef ecosystem rich in biodiversity, is the home and habitat of a variety of marine organisms, including benthos that serve as biological indicators of water quality. The research aims to identify the species and composition of megabenthos, analyze abundance and biodiversity, as well as study the relationship of water parameters with abundance, species composition, and biological diversity of megabenthos in the Enggano Island Aquatic Coral Reef ecosystem. Data collection was done using purposive sampling, and measurements of water quality included temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), brightness, and salinity. Station points are determined at two locations on Enggano Island: Banjar Sari Village (three stations) and Dua Island. (dua stasiun). Megabenthos data is collected using the Benthos Belt Transect (BBT) method, then samples are identified in the laboratory, and the relationship of abundance and diversity of megabenthous with water parameters is analyzed using the PCA method. (Principal Component Analysis). Fourteen species of megabenthos were found in six classes: Acanthaster planci, Conidae betulinus, Cypraea tigris, Cipraea lynx, Hippopus hippopus, Lambis lambis, Comaster multifidus, Pearsonothuria graeffei, Pinctada radiata, Tridacna crocea, Tritacna maxima, Trisacna squamosa, Trochus niloticus, and Ophiomastix janualis. The highest abundance is Ophiomastix janualis (92 ind/h). The composition consists of asteroids (2.27%), bivalvia (27.27%), crinoidea (11.36%), gastropoda (31.82%), holothuroidea (2.27%), and ophiuroidea (25%). The diversity index indicates criteria of moderation, high uniformity, and low dominance. The relationship of water parameters with megabenthos biodiversity is influenced by the speed of current and dissolved oxygen. The results of this research form an important basis for the management and conservation of the coral reef ecosystem.
