Abstract
Traditional oil extraction using simple equipment can have a negative impact on the soil environment and can be harmful to health. An alternative method that can reduce petroleum hydrocarbon compounds in the soil is the use of hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria that live in the rhizosphere of plants that can grow from petroleum-contaminated soil around oil wells. The biodegradation mechanism possessed by hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria by decomposing hydrocarbon compounds into carbon and energy sources for their survival. The purpose of the study was to obtain isolates of hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria from the rhizosphere of plants growing in petroleum-contaminated soil and to determine the potential of hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria in reducing TPH, and to determine the identity of hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria that were successfully isolated. The results obtained indicated three isolates as hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria that have the potential to degrade hydrocarbon compounds. Each isolate has the potential to reduce TPH with a percentage of biodegradation, namely isolate A51 by 17.26%, isolate A45 by 12.44%, and isolate A46 by 4.95%. The identification results show that bacterial isolate A45 is similar to the genus Enterococcus, isolate A46 is similar to the genus Lactobacillus, and isolate A51 is similar to the genus Corynebacterium. Keyword : hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria, rhizosphere, oil well, bioremediation, total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH).
