Abstract
This research aims to describe the man manifestations of compliance and violations of the principles of language politeness in the 2024 Vice Presidential Election Debate on the Kompas TV Channel and the Implications for Indonesian Language Learning in High Schools. This research uses ethnographic methods, with a pragmatic approach. The data collection technique used in this research uses listening techniques, free-involved listening (SBLC) and note-taking techniques, and the data analysis technique used is content analysis using contextual methods. The data source in the research is the video of the first vice presidential debate for the 2024 election on the Kompas TV channel. Based on the research results, there are 98 utterances that include the princples of language politeness which include compliance and violation of the maxim of wisdom, maxim of generosity, maxim of appreciation, maxim of simplicity, maxim of consensus, and maxim of sympathy. In this study, there were 21 utterances that obeyed the maxim of wisdom, 5 utterances that complied with the maxim of generosity, 20 utterances that complied with the maxim of appreciation, 19 utterances that complied with the maxim of simplicity, 9 utterances that complied with the maxim of consensus, and 8 utterances that complied with the maxim of sympathy. Meanwhile, 2 utterances violated the maxim of wisdom, 2 utterances violated the maxim of generosity, 3 utterances violated the maxim of appreaciation, 5 utterances vioalated the maxim of simplicity, 2 utterances violated the maxim consensus, and 2 utterances violated the maxim sympathy. This research has implications for Indonesian language learning at the high school level. The results of this research can have implications for learning Indonesian in high school class.
