Abstract
World Youth Day was initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1984 in order to unite young Catholics from around the world. This celebration provides an opportunity for young Catholics to strengthen their faith, gain a deeper understanding of Catholic teachings, maintain peace and build a closer relationship with God. The research in this thesis uses a nonviolent perspective that emphasizes forms of response and expression without confrontation, one of which is a religious procession. Using the concept of religious procession by Gene Sharp, the research will use 5 main dimensions, namely Participation, Symbolism, Discipline, Persistence, and Innovation. The research shows that there are several processes and traditions that have been carried out in the WYD agenda in an effort to achieve positive peace and encourage young Catholics to continue to be able to maintain world peace, one of which is biblically based. WYD has promoted interfaith and intercultural dialogue, empowered youth as agents of change, raised awareness and advocacy, and built solidarity and unity among thousands of young Catholics who attended from all over the nation. Through the processions and traditions carried out in the series of events, WYD has become part of the non-actors who are also actively involved in promoting positive peace for the international issues of this era.
