Abstract
This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and shame (internal shame and external shame) in victims of bullying during their school years. The hypothesis in this study is that there is a relationship between self-esteem with shame, internal shame and external shame in victims of bullying during school. The population in this study were early adults who had experienced bullying during their school years. The sample size in this study consisted of 150 early adults with 30 early adults for testing. Sampling in this study used purposive sampling technique. The measuring instrument used in measuring the shame variable is to use a shame scale compiled by the researcher based on the components proposed by Gilbert and Andrews (1998). The self-esteem variable is measured using a self-esteem scale compiled by the researcher referring to aspects of self-esteem proposed by Stets and Burke (2014). Data analysis in this study used the Pearson product moment method. The results of Pearson product moment analysis between self-esteem and shame show an r value of -0.794 and a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05), then internal shame data with an r value of -0.821 and a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05), and external shame shows an r value of -0.616 and a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05). These results indicate that there is a relationship between self-esteem and shame, internal shame and external shame in victims of bullying in school. Thus the hypothesis proposed in this study is accepted.
