Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the role of learned resourcefulness towards caregiver burden in nursing home caregivers. The hypothesis of this research is that there is a role of learned resourcefulness towards caregiver burden in nursing home caregivers. In this study, the population used is caregivers of the elderly in nursing home, where the research sample is 113 caregivers and 43 caregivers for try out. The sampling technique in this study is using incidental sampling, where the characteristic of the sample were caregiver who directly care for the elderly in nursing home for at least 6 hours a day. The measuring instruments used are based on the aspects of caregiver burden scale from Whitlatch, Zarit, and Eye (1991) and the aspects of learned resourcefulness scale from Rosenbaum (1993). Data analysis in this research used simple linear regression. From the results of the analysis, the data shows that the R square value for the role of learned resourcefulness in caregiver burden is 0,340, the F value is 57,211 and the significance value is 0,000 (p<0,05). This shows that learned resourcefulness has a significant role towards caregiver burden. Thus the hypothesis proposed in this research can be accepted. The contributions of learned resourcefulness to caregiver burden is 34%.
