Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the description of the sense of community in the Karang Taruna community in Banyuasin. The population of this study were members of Karang Taruna in Banyuasin, namely Karang Taruna Setrio Village, Karang Taruna Kelurahan Pangkalan Balai, and Karang Taruna Kelurahan Kedondong Raye. The research sample was 150 people and for the trial as many as 50 people. The sampling technique was carried out by accidental sampling technique. The measuring instrument used in this study is the sense of community scale which refers to the dimensions of membership, influence, integration and fulfillment of needs and shared emotional connection from McMillan & chavis, (1986). The results showed that the sense of community in the Karang Taruna community in Banyuasin was in the medium category. This shows that individuals in the community feel a significant impact from the sense of community in Karang Taruna. Members of Karang Taruna in Banyuasin are influenced by factors of gender, occupation and latest education. In addition, the researcher found that the aspect of sense of community with the highest mean value is the membership aspect, which indicates that the Karang Taruna community has a high level of membership.
