Abstract

This research describes a bilateral cooperative relationship carried out by the government of Indonesia and REDD+ member countries in overcoming a phenomenon of greenhouse gas emissions caused by deforestation and forest degradation. REDD+ itself is an international initiative that aims to mitigate climate change by affecting the substantial contribution of deforestation and forest degradation to the impact of global greenhouse gas emissions. The researcher wants to see and understand how the procedures, implementation and governance of the cooperative relationship between Indonesia and REDD+ member countries in overcoming greenhouse gas emissions in Indonesia, especially caused by deforestation and forest degradation. Indonesia plays an important role due to its vast forest resources, the success of REDD+ in Indonesia requires a strong governance and implementation framework, and an effective and efficient monitoring, reporting, and verification system. Active participation of local communities who depend on forest resources as their source of livelihood. These forests are essential not only for global carbon sequestration but also for biodiversity and livelihood sources for local people, by leveraging international support and also engaging in global carbon market trading, Indonesia aims to balance economic development as well as environmental management. Integrating REDD+ into Indonesia's National Determined Contribution under the Paris Agreement underscores Indonesia's dedication to achieving its emissions reduction target by 2030. This integration not only strengthens Indonesia's climate action plan but also ensures that the benefits of REDD+ are aligned with the goals of environmentally friendly national economic development. The idea of action of the Indonesia state then can become a role model in terms of economic development and sustainable growth which then can be imitated and followed by other countries.
