Abstract

The emergence of the fast fashion phenomenon is a form of realizing society's culture of increasingly high consumerism regarding fashion because the production system is quick, cheap, and mass. This favorable situation is inversely proportional to the tragic conditions behind garment production, namely the emergence of various exploitations of garment workers. This research aims to explain how a global social movement, namely the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC), seeks to voice the rights of garment workers in Bangladesh. The explanation in this research uses a qualitative method based on a descriptive approach. In this research, we use global social movement theory which describes several strategies contained in the demands, arenas, and tactics carried out by the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) in seeking to fulfill the rights of garment workers in Bangladesh. Through strategic demands, the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) has effectively highlighted various instances of exploitation within the garment industry, exposing the irresponsible actions of brand companies and supplier factories. By establishing a strategic arena, the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) has created a platform for garment workers to advocate for their rights and demand fair labor standards that align with a decent standard of living. The Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) has successfully implemented strategic tactics, such as fostering shared concerns, demanding targets, and taking concrete actions, to support garment workers in Bangladesh. The findings of this study underscore the dire working conditions faced by garment workers in Bangladesh, which are exacerbated by the absence of binding labor laws. In response, the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) continues to advocate for the full implementation of the International Accord as a legally binding framework to protect the rights of garment workers in Bangladesh.
