Abstract
Tin mining activities on Bangka Island have been going on for a long time and have become a major problem because they cause the formation of large pits and damage the chemical properties of the soil in the form of high metal content. High levels of metals need to be neutralized so as not to disturb the ecosystem, one of which is heavy metal iron (Fe). Heavy metal iron (Fe) will be dangerous if consumed above normal amounts resulting in liver and kidney damage. Biosorption is known as one of the technologies that can treat heavy metals using living or dead microorganisms. pH is one of the factors in the biosorption process that affects metal solubility. One of the microorganisms that can be used as a biosorbent is Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae dead biomass has the advantage of not requiring the addition of nutrients in its absorption. This study aims to determine how much the ability of Saccharomyces cerevisiae dead biomass and determine the effect of various pH variations on the biosorption of heavy metal iron (Fe). This study used pH variations of 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 with biosorbent weight of 0.1 g/L. The ability of Saccharomyces cerevisiae biomass in absorbing iron (Fe) heavy metal was optimally obtained at pH 5 with a percentage of uptake of 94.47% with a decrease in metal levels up to 0.795 mg/L. Keywords: Mining Activity, Iron Metal (Fe), Biosorption, pH, Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
