Abstract

The objective of this research was to identify the effect of weeding period on growth and production of mung bean {Vigna radiata (L.) Wilzeck) Kenari variant. This research was conducted on May to August 2004 at Experimental Farming of Agriculture Faculty of Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. The height was 8 m of above sea with ultisol type. Randomized Block Design (RBD) was used in this research with nine treatments. The treatments were without weeding (P0), once weeding on two week after planting (Pl), once weeding on four week after planting (P2), twice weeding on two and four week after planting (P3), twice weeding on two and six week after planting (P4), twice weeding on four and six week after planting (P5), once weeding on two week after planting combined with glyphosate application before planting (P6), once weeding on for week after planting combined with glyphosate application before planting (P7), once weeding on six week after planting combined with glyphosate application before planting (P8). The research result showed that the twice weeding on two and six week after planting (P4) was the best treatment for production of mung bean (pod number of plant, seed weight, seed weight each hectare’s and 1000-seed weight). The twice weeding on four and six week after planting (P5) could decrease dry weight of weeds.
