Abstract

Base isolation is one of the seismic protection methods used to protect building structures from damage caused by earthquakes. Base isolation is a method of decoupling structural movement from earthquae-induced motion by using base isolators to reduce the force on the upper structure, and this method is suitable for application in building structures. This study aims to determine the influence of structural height on the seismic performance of a dual system reinforced concrete building structure using an LRB type base isolator compared to a fixed-base structure designed for hard soil conditions in the Bengkulu City area. This study uses models of 5-, 10- and 15-story structures which will be analyzed using the response spectrum analysis method and nonlinear time history analysis. The results show that the use of LRB in structures provides better structural response and performance compared to fixed base structures. In addition, lower structures are able to provide better and more significant structural response and performance compared to higher structures. This is evident in the 5-story building structure using LRB, which experiences a more significant increase in the fundamental period, a greater reduction in shear forces, and a greater reduction in the story drift ratio, thus having an impact on better structural performance compared to the 10- and 15-story building structures.
