Abstract
The Ogan Lama I Bridge in Palembang is a historic bridge nearly 85 years old with structural damage and deterioration of its elements. This study aims to evaluate the existing structural condition, determine the strengthening needs, and analyze the effectiveness of strengthening bridge elements using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP). The modeling and analysis of the existing structure were conducted using MIDAS CIVIL 2019 software, and manual capacity calculations were based on ACI 318-14, SNI 2847:2019, and RSNI-12-2004 for deflection analysis. CFRP strengthening calculations were based on SNI 8971:2021 and ACI 440.2R-2017. The results show that the deflection under Strength 1 Load Combination exceeds the allowable limit. Several elements, such as Longitudinal Beams 40/140 and 30/40, Diaphragm Beams 40/80 and 40/130, as well as Arch 80/65 and Hanger 25/25, require strengthening due to insufficient capacity. Strengthening using 4 layers of CFRP has proven to increase the moment capacity by up to 102% at the supports and 41% in the span, as well as to improve shear capacity by up to 142%. The calculations indicate that although the CFRP tensile strength has not reached the ultimate limit, fewer layers would not be able to resist the occurring ultimate moment. Thus, CFRP strengthening is effective in increasing moment and shear capacity, as well as maintaining the bridge's condition.
