Abstract
Advancement of technology and economy that rapidly increasing encourages the high demand of transportation in the society. In this case, the natural environment that supports human life, its quality will be increasingly threatened by the negative effects of air pollution, especially in urban areas. Air quality in the large cities is now more concerned with the increasing of motor vehicles, the result is the effect of global warming is also increasingly felt. This case encourage to do research to analyze influence of the use of catalytic converter with a copper-based catalyst against exhaust gas emissions in a car that produces toxic gases that are harmful HC and CO. Tests are performed according with the variation of engine rotation and variation of the thickness of the catalysts cell. Testing of exhaust gas emissions performed using Automotive Emission Analyzer CG450. Based on the results of tests that have been performed, obtained the data of test results are different. Based on the results of testing that has been performed, it can be concluded that the use of 0.4 mm copper catalyst, percentage of exhaust pollution from the combustion HC and CO after passed through the exhaust filter is much lower than without the use of catalysts.
