Abstract
Infiltration measurement in the field usually uses ring infiltrometer. The measurement for a large area needs more time and resources. The aim of this research was to test infiltration index derived from LF A (Landscape Function Analysis) indicator and to relate the value with field infiltration. The research was conducted at Patihgalung Subdistrict, West Prabumulih from September to Oktober 2008. The location was a rubber farmland of 2 years old and newly planted area. Two transects were aligned at each location. This research applied direct measurement using LFA Method, that recorded some indicator of soil surface. At rubber farmland, soil surface was covered mostly by grass (83 %), minorly pineapples (14 %) and rubber (1 %). At newly planted area, soil surface was partly covered by tree stump (6 %), young rubber trees (<1 %) and mostly open surface (89 %). Average infiltration was classified very fast. Rapid infiltration was highest at transect 4 for test open zone of newly planted area (180. 25 cm/hr) and point infiltration the lowest at transect 2 second test pineapple zone at rubber farmland (40. 75 cm/hr). Infiltration index with LFA method the highest at transect 2 grass zone (48. 38 %) and the lowest at transect 4 first test rubber zone (17, 54 %). Measure of direct infiltration at location in fact is not Iinearly correlated with the observation vvith LFA index. It is because of similar soil surface and less sensitive LFA index used in this research. It is suggested to facilitate by using Reservoir Marriotte and LFA index that more sensitive to predict of infiltration.
