Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the effect of compost on Caisim (Brassica juncea 1.) in the rotation after paddy on floating agriculture in the swampland. The research was conducted in the swampland of Indralaya Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya South Sumatra. The study was conducted from March 2011 to June 2011. This research used two floating bamboo raft the size of 300 cm long and 150 cm wide that had been built by previous studient. Each bamboo rafts were given different treatments, the first raft was given a dose of 10 ton compost/ha, or 4,5 kg per raft, while the second raft without giving compost. This result showed that compost treatment (4,5 kg/raft) increased significienthy plant height, fresh weight of shoot, shoot dried weight and soil water content, but compost did not affect number of leaves. The producion of Caisim with dose of 10 ton compost/ha is 0,4 ton/ha. Compost also increased organic matter content, pH, nutrients N, P, K, Ca and Mg. It is sugested to increase the dosage of compost in order to achieve better plant production, it is also better to lift the raft upward so the soil become drier.
