Abstract

RSUD Palembang BARI is one of the Regional General Hospitals in the city of Palembang that falls into the Class B hospital category. RSUD Palembang BARI manages solid hazardous waste (B3) starting from the use of personal protective equipment, selection, collection, transportation, and storage at a temporary holding area, while further processing is carried out by a third party. This research aims to understand the conditions regarding the management of hazardous solid waste at the Palembang BARI Regional Public Hospital, specifically the characteristics of the waste, sources of the waste, types of waste, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), selection, collection, transportation, storage, and processing of hazardous solid waste. This research uses a descriptive research method with a qualitative approach, involving a total of 5 informants. The data collection techniques used are in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. The research results indicate that the characteristics of the hazardous solid waste produced include infectious waste, sharp objects waste, pharmaceutical waste, and other types of hazardous solid waste. Based on interviews and observations referring to Ministerial Regulation of Environment and Forestry Number P.56/MENLHK/Setjen/2015, there are 4 variables that meet the requirements, namely selection, collection, transportation, and storage. Then, there are 2 variables that do not meet the requirements, which are the incomplete use of personal protective equipment in the form of eye protection and aprons, as well as the processing of hazardous solid waste. Additionally, the non-compliance includes the incomplete use of personal protective equipment, specifically eye protection and aprons, as well as the final processing of hazardous solid waste because the Palembang BARI Regional General Hospital does not have an operating permit for the incinerator, even though it has the equipment. By conducting regular socialization and training regarding the SOP for waste management at the Palembang BARI Regional Public Hospital for hazardous solid waste management personnel, we aim to raise awareness about the importance of proper and effective management, so that it does not pose a danger to humans and the environment.
